How Long Does a Home Inspection Take?
One of the most common questions homebuyers ask is, "How long will my home inspection take?" While every property is different, the length of a home inspection depends on several factors, including the size, age, and condition of the home.
At Cherokee Home Inspection LLC, we believe every inspection deserves the time necessary to provide a thorough evaluation of the home's visible systems and components.
Average Home Inspection Times
Although every property is unique, a typical inspection generally takes:
Homes under 1,500 square feet: Approximately 2 to 3 hours
Homes between 1,500 and 2,500 square feet: Approximately 3 to 4 hours
Larger homes: 4 hours or longer depending on size and complexity
Additional services such as radon testing, sewer scope inspections, septic dye testing, thermal imaging, or manufactured home foundation evaluations may require additional time.
What Affects Inspection Time?
Several factors can influence the length of an inspection, including:
Size of the home
Age of the home
Accessibility of the attic and crawlspace
Number of systems being inspected
Presence of detached garages or outbuildings
Additional inspection services requested
Overall condition of the property
Why We Never Rush an Inspection
A professional home inspection is more than a checklist. It involves carefully evaluating hundreds of visible components, documenting findings with photographs, and preparing a detailed report.
Taking the time to perform a thorough inspection helps provide buyers with valuable information about the home's condition.
Should Buyers Attend the Inspection?
Whenever possible, we encourage buyers to attend the final portion of the inspection. This provides an opportunity to ask questions, review significant findings, and better understand the home's systems and maintenance needs.
What Happens After the Inspection?
Following the inspection, Cherokee Home Inspection LLC provides a detailed digital report with photographs and clear explanations of our findings. The report is designed to help buyers make informed decisions and better understand the home's visible condition.
